【NOTICE】26th 「International Congress for Battery Recycling」 ICBR 2021

September 22 – 24, 2021 / Geneva, Switzerland

ICBR 2021 is the international platform for reviewing the challenges faced by Battery Producers and the Battery Recycling Industry on a global basis. For over 26 years, ICBR has brought together the international community of experts and decision makers of the entire Battery Recycling value chain, including battery manufacturers and recyclers, collection organizations, OEM’s, policymakers, materials and services providers and many more... (The photo shows the state when the last ICBR was held)

The conference will offer participants business opportunities through networking and communication with Battery Recycling actors including representatives of existing industrial processes and processes under development.

Plenary sessions will be complemented by many side events such as round tables, exhibitions, posters presentations in order to open the conference to innovative issues, processes and technologies.

The revised Batteries Directive (EU Commission’s proposal)

The market development for rechargeable and primary batteries requests new approaches for optimizing the management of waste batteries at end of life.

The EU Commission is proposing a Revised Batteries Directive with at least 13 innovative measures to optimize the collection and recycling of batteries at end of life. The ICBR 2021 program will cover both the Legal and Regulatory aspects and the practical implementation of the EU Commission proposals.

Among others the following issues will be discussed at ICBR 2021:

  • New definitions for batteries
  • Materials recovery rates
  • Second life of industrial batteries, waste vs not-waste issue
  • Collection rates for portable and industrial batteries
  • Carbon footprint for industrial and EV batteries as well as performance and durability requirements of such batteries
  • Mandatory recycled content of materials in Automotive, Industrial and EV batteries
  • Design requirements for portable batteries and phasing-out of portable general purpose primary batteries
  • Due diligence for raw materials in industrial and EV batteries
  • Battery related information communication including a Battery Passport scheme

Technical topics to be covered at ICBR 2021:

The technical development needed to support these new measures and their targets/objectives will also be discussed.

  • Technologies to recover the Lithium and other active materials content of a waste battery
  • Methodology to show evidences of the materials recycled content
  • Content of an Electronic Information Exchange System for batteries
  • EV batteries diagnosis and deactivation (depowering)
  • Technical and Regulatory requirements for placing Second Life batteries on the market
  • Mandatory due diligence through the Supply Chain

Join us at ICBR 2021 where the most important impacts of a revised Batteries Directive on the technical and economic aspects of the Battery Value Chain will be discussed.
